DIY: Gift Box Made from a Vintage Book

Have you ever found yourself at a used book sale and happened upon a wide selection of old vintage books that you loved the style of? Well now you can put all of those vintage books to a good use.

If you are a booklover and have many old vintage books lying around your house that you no longer read, you are now able to make a nice unique gift box that you can use or can give as a gift for a special someone. I know, you may not want to sacrifice all of your books by cutting each page, but in the end, you will have created a nice, distinctive gift box that anybody will love.

On the outside, it's a regular vintage, but what's inside holds the most importance--literally.

Materials needed:

• an old book (Choose a book with enough pages to accommodate the depth of your gift.) • X-acto knife

• paper to use as a template for the initial box opening • washi tape to secure the paper • scissors • large binder clip (optional, but pretty helpful) • Modge-Podge (optional)

1. 1. Use scissors to cut a paper template that is the size of the opening you want your box to have.

2. Open the front cover of your book and, using two smaller pieces of the washi tape, tape the template down. (The size of your template is your choice and depends on how much stuff you want to put in your gift box, although dont make it big enough that the pages will start to rip).

3. Using the exacto knife, cut around the template on all four sides. Push down hard, as you want to cut through as many pages as possible in order to make this process go quicker.

4. Remove the template and lift out all the book pages scraps that are loose. Flip the book open to a few pages ahead of where your knife stopped cutting. Use that page (which already has the window cut in it) to guide your next set up cuts. Use the binder to clipto secure the uncut pages so they will stay together and still.

5. Repeat this process until your DIY gift box is as deep as you would like it to be.

6. (Optional) If you'd like all of the book pages to stay together because you would like to use this as a DIY safe for your valuables or just want a sturdier box, paint modge-podge around the outer edges of all of your pages.

Now you can use all of your cut out book pages for another craft or project you create! There are so many possibilities!

You did it! You created a unique, one of a kind vintage book gift box. Now, decide what you are going to put in it!
