DIY: Ombre Cork Heart
This cork project is fun and pretty easy and can be beatifully placed anywhere in your home!
Materials: • wood board (24″x 24″ is what is used in this example) • acrylic paint – you’ll need your accent color (red is used here), white, and the background color (gray) • corks- there are around 100 corks used for this one! (tip – ask friends and family to save corks for you!) • paint tray with space for at least 6 colors • foam brushes • glue gun
Step 1:
Divide evenly your corks into as many groups as colors of paint you’ll be using. This will help to ensure that you have a nice, even gradient on your final product.
Step 2:
Mix your accent color with white to create however many shades you want (6 in this example) ranging from deep and dark to light. Keep mixing until you are satisfied with your colors.
Step 3:
Paint the top of the corks with your foam brush, and make sure that you're only covering the top of the corks. Let them dry.
Step 4:
While the corks are drying, it’s time to spray paint your board with the color that you’ve selected. You’ll want to give the board two coats of paint. Paint smoothly with your foam brush and let it dry for about an hour or two.
Step 5:
Use an old paper bag or a new piece of paper, and draw a heart about the size shown below, nad cut it out. Tip: Before tracing you're heart to the board, perform a dry run and place all of your corks in advance to make sure you have enough to cover the entire heart. If you don't have enough, make a smaller heart. Once it is the correct size, trace it with a pencil onto your board.
Step 6: Once they are placed how you like, glue them onto the board with a hot glue gun. (You can add sayings, words, or letters to this project if you want, like this one.) Now you have a complete project that will look great in your home!
